Iguazu

Some of the best of the photos I took when I visited Iguazu Falls, Brazilian side.

It was a particularly grim overnight bus, followed by a worse breakfast and then after I feel asleep on the local bus to the park, I arrived unwashed, exhausted and disheveled. Possibly not the best way to kick off a day of admiring the wonders of nature and the power of the world's second largest waterfalls. It was an overcast but not rainy day, so walking along the river to the falls was quite a hot and sweaty experience but they were pretty impressive, even though everything about me and my state of being that day definitely wasn't.

Although undoubtedly impressive, I think I prefer the day trips I made to far smaller, and swimmable waterfalls I've visited on some of the Caribbean Islands I've been to. Walking through the tropical forest and climbing along rivers or small footpaths to have a swim, I felt the full effect of being at one with nature. Being able to swim in the water and jump off the top of the little cascades and sit on a boulder and watch the water flow past, stare up at the canopy of trees and wildlife around was more of an experience for me. Probably aided by the fact that we had the place to ourselves and I always went exploring these places with good friends.

This comparison was almost certainly in my head because I'm planning to return to the Caribbean at the end of this trip. It's my final destination, I have no return flight home, only plans to get back to a tiny placed called Martinique before all my money runs dry. I just hope when I finally get there after five years of absence that it still feels like somewhere I might belong. There is a back story I'll shed light on as I make my way back there slowly but surely...
